Embroidery, while not new to the art world, is definitely rising in popularity for many contemporary artists. One up-and-coming artist whom I recently discovered is Stephanie Clark. Although she does not limit herself only to the medium of embroidery, her embroidered "paintings" are definitely getting people's attention. Stephanie Clark grew up in Urbana, Missouri and was taught how to embroider by her grandmother. She has a background in painting and currently experiments by using thread to create tone and depth as opposed to paint or sometimes combines the thread with other media.
